Our Young Chefs’ Academy and Young Bakers’ Academy at Westminster Kingsway College have been the starting point for many of the college’s successful students and graduates. Many of our students progress on to apply for our Professional Chef Diploma, Chef Apprenticeships or Patisserie Diplomas.
No formal qualifications are required but applicants should have a strong interest in their chosen subject. Our Saturday schools for 13 to 16 year olds offers a great opportunity, excellent tuition and a certificate on completion. Courses take place at our Victoria Centre in central London.
Head of School Hospitality and Culinary Arts
Students from local schools at the “Junior Chefs Academy” learn a range of practical cookery skills as well as about heathy lifestyles, the importance of seasonality on food, and the environmental impact it has. Teaching is done in a friendly, engaging and professional environment and emphasises the importance of team work, encouraging young people to socially dine together. As well as promoting the importance of stainability and food in everyday life, sessions highlight the many career opportunities that the hospitality industry has for young people in the future.”
External Ambassador and Mentor at the College
We are so proud to offer our Junior Chef Academy programme, held within the professional kitchens at the Radmoor Restaurant at Loughborough College. Our chef lecturers support young people from what may be their first kitchen experience at 11years old up to 16 years old when they may start in industry or deciding on their careers. They are taught basic skills with equipment, food preparation and by the end of the programme they will cook and host a 3-course meal for their parent/guardian to celebrate their achievements. In addition, we encourage participation, team-work and effort. In return we are blessed to witness some beautiful friendships form and flourish, confidence is boosted tremendously and the students are happily achieving some essential skills and improving their abilities.
Burton and South Derbyshire College is delighted to introduce a Junior Chefs Academy, a one-week culinary programme created in partnership with the Geoffrey Harrison Foundation.
The Geoffrey Harrison Foundation is dedicated to helping young people develop their talents within the hospitality industry, whilst preparing them for future success. The initiative offers aspiring chefs aged 13 to 16 the chance to explore the world of food and hospitality through hands-on experience in a professional kitchen.
